Cold emailing London hedge funds as first year undergrad - good idea?
Im a first year undergraduate at a semi-target school, studying Finance. So far no luck with spring week apps, got a few connections which could lead to a possible 2nd year summer. For this year, would cold emailing London HF's with my CV, a stock pitch, and a short description of a risk project i'm working on (extracurricular, self-initiated) be a good idea? Or should I redirect my efforts elsewhere. Looking to get into S&T then HF down the line. Thanks
Funds interested in hiring from S&T, and looking at some first year’s risk project aren’t the funds that want to look at a stock pitch.
Figure out if you’re an equities guy or something else and then focus on that
Appreciate the insight, my long term goal is HF macro strategies, but I’ve also done equity analysis in my university’s investment fund. The risk project is meant to be implemented into the fund next academic year (140 fund members for extra context). Given that, should I tailor my cold emails to macro driven HFs, highlighting the risk project rather than a stock pitch?
Broke into one of the top london hedge funds out of school, many of the larger firms have structured internships and graduate programs. But I agree with the other poster, figure out the product you’re interested in, and equity analyst is not going to have similar interests or skillset to someone wanting to trade rates at Brevan
