Internship rejects only

I've been rejected from more banks, funds, equity funds, brokers, commodities firms, Asset Management, boutiques..... than anyone this summer. Well they can kiss my ass. This is a forum to let it all out. Don't be shy, and if you came in here to brag about your fancy internship in NYC, I will find some way to make your life miserable. Let the emotions flow............................................................

Now this is my kind of thread.

Sent out 584 resumes (according to my outbox), and absolutely nothing. Now I'm doing unpaid work which is nice, especially since I can keep my paid job at the same time, and I'm doing a little more than grabbing coffee, which is cool.

If you're not really a 2nd year analyst...don't worry about it too much. I had trouble landing internships too because I was a transfer student who didn't worry about anything but transferring before my junior year. I ended up taking a cheesy unpaid internship, then a PWM internship at a BB and I actually landed a good FT gig after that (better than PWM, not as good as IB).

But I got the PWM internship on the day of my last final exam before Summer. Seriously, I took a three hour train right after my final, last day before summer and got it. So it's not the end of the line, bud.

Nice thread...

Everyone goes through tough times. No offer for a summer position, no return offers as a SA for FT, no offer for FT after recruiting... Don't give up, there's always a path to get where you want. Sometimes it's just a lot more twisted and bumpy than you want it to be.

Good luck!

i just wanna say I've had tons and tons of rejection before my final offer, and all I can offer is "don't give up". I looked up the Vault top 50 banking employers and applied to all of them, plus the thread with the boutique banks (thru Cap IQ) for major cities here and back in my country. Must have sent out close to 200 resumes/apps. something WILL happen if u dun stop trying.

Good luck

Sent >1000 resumes (no joke) - 10% replied with a no, 1% agreed to just talk to me over the phone. All this and a bit of ridiculous luck lead to an unpaid internship and consequently an offer. A shitty offer. I am still looking for a (different) job, but I have experience, can focus and not worry(the thing I am most thankful for). It's important to get people to talk to you (network) and "get your foot in the door" -whatever that means in your case. I would also try to do something on the side (keep your mind off the job hunt and try get in shape), because looking for a job is one of the nastiest things you'd have to do. It destroys your confidence and the stress can be unbearable if you don't have money and people to lean on. One day, guys - one day, persistence will pay off, you'll grab on to something and get to look for land.

i mean i worked as a mcdonalds manager and landed a job. don't worry man.

I have applied/sent my resume out to close to 50 places over the past 7-8 months with no offers whatsoever. In the just the past week I have secured an offer for financial advisory in Sydney and have an interview with a top shop in London. Both of these came through big time networking (and a bit of luck!). My plans aren't in stone yet for the summer, but in my case persistence has started to pay off! Stay strong..
