SIG Dublin

Hello, anyone here has experience working as a Quant Engineer at SIG Dublin?

1) Is it a good place to work on interesting problems, learn and progress?
2) What would be the compensation for this kind of role? I can share more info about me in dm if needed.
3) What's the long-term outlook, is there a possibility to change to research or quant trading, in case I'd want to try something new? My education background is in Financial Maths.

Thank you very much!

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's what you need to know:

  1. Interesting Problems, Learning, and Progression:

    • While the context provided does not specifically mention SIG Dublin, it does highlight that quant roles at top firms like Citadel, Two Sigma, and DE Shaw involve working on complex algorithms and statistics-focused problems. This suggests that similar roles at other top quant firms, including SIG, are likely to offer challenging and intellectually stimulating work.
  2. Compensation:

    • For first-year compensation at top quant firms, the range is typically between $250k to $400k. For example:
      • Two Sigma: $250k (150k base, 50k sign, 50k guaranteed bonus)
      • Citadel: $400k (150k base, 150k sign, 100k guaranteed bonus)
    • While specific figures for SIG Dublin are not provided, you can expect competitive compensation in a similar range, especially for roles involving quant engineering.
  3. Long-term Outlook and Career Mobility:

    • The context indicates that there is potential for career mobility within quant firms. For instance, transitioning from a quant engineering role to research or quant trading is plausible, especially if you have a strong educational background in Financial Mathematics. The ability to move between roles may depend on the firm's structure and your performance.

I’ve never worked for SIG Dublin but I have hired people from there and have made many coworkers who used to work there.

1. Yes, you’ll work on plenty of intellectually challenging problems. It’s a good place to work especially ambitious people.
2. No idea for engineers. Probably slightly above market. Remember, SIG isn’t know for industry leading pay, a lot of talent leaves for better pay elsewhere after a few years.
3. Probably unlikely to switch to the investment side. They have a robust training program for junior hires out of school, and many don’t make it through. Doubtful they’ll give you a chance at this program unless you make it through the same rigorous interview process. Your best bet if you want to truly work on the investment side is to look elsewhere, and you’ll want to do that earlier in your career than later as you should spend your time developing skills to help your long term career ambitions. Don’t waste your time as an engineer when those skills have little to no applicability to your desired career.
