Transition from CorpFin

Hey everyone,

I'm currently an undergraduate economics student at Syracuse University, and I got an offer at a Fortune 100 telecomm/tech company for a corporate finance summer internship. While the offer is great and I will probably take it, its not exactly what I want to do. I have the ability to pick between a few different departments for this internship like investor relations, FP&A, Corporate Financial Planning and Treasury. I've been thinking about exploring opportunities in M&A, S&T, and AM. Really just something in banking, not necessarily front office roles either, just want to stay away from accounting.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience in these fields. Specifically:

  • Are there skills from corporate finance that could be useful in these areas?
  • Any advice on making a successful transition? I'm already considering getting my MSF after I graduate or my MBA a few years later.
