1st Year Analyst Vacation

Hey guys,

I am going to be starting as a first year analyst at an Investment Bank in Chicago and was wondering what vacation time would be like. I was told to not really expect a full weekend off the first year, but I am more wondering about major/national holidays (Christmas time, New Years, Memorial Day, 4th of July, etc..). Should I expect to have a few days off or will I most likely still be working a few hours a day? Any advice would be awesome as well as some personal experiences. Thanks!

You can probably expect to get some time off during long weekends/holidays and can plan a weekend trip or two. I've taken off a week from Christmas-New Year's and other smaller breaks after deals closed. Most senior bankers and clients will be taking time off then anyways so work should be light on at least a few of those holidays. There's a chance something pops up that forces last-minute cancellation, but most banks will reimburse those costs. Worst case scenario you have to bring a laptop and log in a few hours in the morning/night. In general, banks have gotten better about giving junior people some flexibility in effort to retain talent.
