2nd year analyst dilemma

Currently a 2nd year m&a analyst at a “top tier” firm. While I certainly do not like the bs that inherently exists within the ib profession, my bigger issue is that I really don’t like doing deals/transactions at all. the idea of investing In businesses sounds interesting, however, I have largely held off from PE recruiting given my lack of interest in participating in transactions. Sounds like more HF oriented could be up my alley, but given my already non existent work/life balance, I don’t have the time/desire to really dig in (I follow markets relatively closely, but don’t read 10ks in my limited free time). Has anyone else felt/experienced this? What types of opportunities did you explore?
