Career Resources
So even corporate lawyers can switch to PE? i thought u will need heavy technical/valuation skills to work in a PE firm...
SHOCK What?! People can get into IBanking without going the 2-year analyst path straight out of college?! gasp What a small box we have all been living in! Face it, people get into banks from: non-targets, with low gpa's, with no connections. There is no formula to getting into banks that works 100% of the time. In fact, it is faster to reach the VP level of a bank by going through multiple job switches outside of banking. E.g. College->Bio-tech->Consulting->VP at IBank
If you want to do private equity, your chances are MUCH better coming from an IB analyst program, despite what that douche fuckhead "coupdetat" seems to think.
Agreed in so far as an analyst's/associate's valuation and overall investment analysis skillset will directly plug into the everyday work functions of a PE professional (though flaming coupdetat for giving an alternative perspective is going a bit far IMHO).
The alternative career track alluded to by coupdetat is possible and I know it has been done by people I know. Primarily because they either had connections that could allow them to be rainmakers (albeit small ones) AND they were good at their previous jobs (whether legal, biotech, TMT, whatever).
Zala as much as you feel the need to talk trash he was saying that holy crap there ARE other ways to get there.

As a lawyer who made the switch I can say that people from various backgrounds (not IB straight through) often bring a lot to the table when looking at deal structuring or practical effects of financial alchemy. Half the people you interview with at a senior level will most likely not have had analyst experience, but have come from law, consulting, Ph.D. programs or a host of other professions (at least that has been my experience).
Where did you get the figure for 9 Simpson associates?
Thats what I've been waiting to see.
