Accepted early to UChicago as a HS senior, advice for IB?

Hey everyone! I'm a senior who was admitted early to UChicago and want to go into IB. My classes are pretty easy this year, so I was wondering if anyone has recommendations for internships/programs/general advice for this year + freshman year. I've tried to find opportunities for this year and summer 2026 but haven't found many. Right now I'm a finance intern at a midsized tech company I have connections at and will also study the 400 questions guide + redbook. I live in California for reference. Thanks for the help!

I'm definitely interested in PE but aren't PE analyst positions pretty few and far between (+ a lot more competitive) and reserved mostly for Harvard/Wharton kids?

No, you can definitely get PE out of UChicago

2 pieces of advice:

  1. take easy easy easy classes your first quarter. Retake things or just stack the deck in your favor. No one cares if you take turbo micro economics, but people do care about your gpa.
  2. I have dinged an extremely high number of uchicago applicants because their social skills were horrible. You guys have a reputation for not being able to pick up on social cues and being weird af. The fact that you are posting on WSO in high school tells me you are likely this sort of weird maladjusted person. So work on social skills and interact with other kids. Honestly maybe even read some books on how to be a normal person or likeable.

Finally, you need to realize the macro economic and technological landscape will change while you are in college. Keep an open mind and go where opportunity is and where your interests and skill set aligns. There are many ways to make money if that is your goal. If you are a math wiz, don’t knock going to public markets/ the hedge fund path. Also, if you have social skills, don’t knock consulting over IB—the smartest people I know did consulting not IB. IB ends up with more grinder, grittier kids, but the outcomes have been pretty comparable if we are being honest. If anything, the top consulting crowd seems to be doing better with some of them staying to this day in consulting (now nearly 10 years post graduation)

Thanks for the advice. Yeah, I've been planning the classes I'm going to take first year. They're mostly core classes and I've been learning which ones are easy from talking to alumni I know.

I do know that UChicago stereotype but I honestly don't think it applies to me since I've never had a problem making friends or getting into leadership positions. I know it's kind of weird for a senior to be on here but I have so much free time this year even while having a social life because I finished college applications so early. I don't see a reason not to start researching this stuff early especially with how hard it is to break into high finance (especially now with AI).

I am definitely open to consulting but I'm more interested in finance, I think my end goal is something like corporate development. Not really interested in trading,
