Advice: Best method to check in on progress

Ok so I am an Undergrad at a pretty respectable eastern state school. Anyways, through my application process I managed to speak with some recruiters and send out my resumes. So about a week and a half ago I get an email back from a vice president of the firm that I applied to saying my resume came across his desk and he asked me a pretty reasonable industry specific question that also relates to my experience on my resume. He also asked my opinion on a certain industry specific event coming up and how I think the management team should handle it. I responded very quickly to the email and responded, my opinion, pretty accurately for what he was looking for, which was my honest opinion of the situation that also proved that I knew what I was talking about. He then responded to my email saying he agrees with my opinion and will forward my resume to the correct people and asked for me to send him my cover letter as well.

Now I thought that this was a good sign. Well it has been about a week or so and I have not been contacted about anything. What is the correct avenue for me to take in this situation? Should I call or email the recruiting office or should I just sit tight? Any input would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would wait a bit longer, perhaps a week, and if they still haven't gotten back to you, send him an e-mail. Remember that HR is pretty busy right now, and they may have it down on their calendar to respond by the end of next week. Just be patient, and don't be too annoying. But still make sure he doesn't forget.
