Advice for non diverse next year

If you are non diverse and got an SA offer this year, what advice do you have for a freshman looking to recruit next year. all the people I know who are white men with 3.9+ at targets other than my own have struck out so far (Although there is a while to go) and the people who do/don’t get offers is random at my school it seems.

Looking for stories from people who made it, and what factors seperate them in the process.

keep your gpa as high as possible and find your edge within networking; same town, HS, sport, hobbies, etc. i had to overdrive networking and wish i started in the Fall IMO

honest answer from target is you need to have a senior MD pulling for you. Someone with global in their title usually does the trick.

Nontarget non-diverse with 3.7 here, networking needs to start asap. I started calling people in May of my freshman year and finished with ~150 calls. This helped me tremendously.

Other than that, try to get experience as soon as possible. I recruited 2 years ago and interviews were largely in April/May. Now they're all February/March, which means that fewer people will have internships on their resumes. If you can get 1-2 real internships, that will set you apart as more and more students won't have anything/won't have much on their resume. Good luck!

If you can get a solid MM or better sophomore summer buyside seat, and aren't socially inept getting a seat at a Top EB or GS/MS/JPM is going to be practically a given. Ultimately, you just need to win an interview process, so be the best person they interview technically, be the most charismatic and professional person they interview and you will get multiple offers.

However, if you are missing anyone of the pieces above (not socially strong, not incredibly technically strong, don't come across as professional) you have almost no chance at least for top seats (idk much about the other stuff). You need to leave no room to question your position as a top candidate, because otherwise someone will beat you.

Not OP, but what is the process like for sophomore gigs?

I have a small distressed HF internship for this summer, which I got through a sending pitches and networking. Are the “good internships” ones I should apply for on handshake, or can I get an internship this way again. Given how accelerated recruiting is, curious if I should be sending out apps now / if I’m missing something. All the BB/UMM programs are for diversity it appears.

Also, is 3.8x stem fine for non diverse?
