Advice Needed on IB FT Recruitment
Hey folks, I am trying to find a job in IB FT but unfrotunately couldn't in the past six months. I just finished an internship in PE (small fund which isn't looking to recruit for an analyst), and I also have an internship in IB at an EB. Also one thing I would mention that I need a visa sponsorship to work, and I am finding it really difficult in the current job market to find something in IB. I would really appreciate it if somebody could tell me, if it's worth waiting to find a job in IB or should I find something ele as a permanent finance role.
Thanks,
Hey there! I can see you're in a bit of a pickle. You've got some solid experience under your belt with internships in both PE and IB, which is fantastic. However, I understand that the visa sponsorship can add an extra layer of complexity to your job hunt.
Now, let's talk about your options. If you're set on IB, it might be worth holding out a little longer. The industry is known for its high turnover rate, so positions can open up unexpectedly. Keep networking, keep applying, and keep your chin up.
On the other hand, if you're open to exploring other finance roles, that could be a good plan B. There are many other prestigious, high-paying jobs in finance that might offer a better work-life balance than IB. For example, you could consider roles in corporate finance, asset management, or financial consulting.
Remember, the path to success isn't always a straight line. Sometimes, taking a detour can lead to even better opportunities down the road. Good luck!
Sources: I have no offer right now, am I screwed?, Difficulty of finding a finance job in a non-finance city suburb after banking, I did an Internship in IB now im unsure if following the path, it was shit, career in banking/finance = employee for the rest of your life?
so you did EB SA sophomore summer, and LMM PE this past summer? Sponsorship will make it hard and it’s also a bit late right now. Aim for regional boutiques at this point
Hey, thanks for your suggestion. It's in uk so these are off-cycle internships. Just one more thing if I let's say do wait for 4-6 months, do you think it will be a big problem as I wouldn't have anything on my CV, or it would be just fine?
[I am not the same guy as the previous comment]
Did you not convert the off cycle IB? Think in general it is quite a red flag to have 2 long-term off cycle internship without converting either. Ofc you have a unique situation given the PE offer was never on the table but still you need to get to an interview to be able to explain this.
Given the current market when there are people with multiple top notch internships/experience recruiting it will be tough. I will definitely start considering other things, at least as a temporary role until you get in IB/market bounces back and positions open up.
