Don't forget to target small/regional/unknown banks nearby--the functional role of "M&A" is one of the most important go/no-go decisions and it needs to be reflected on your resume early on.. the biggest mistake you can make is to only target MM/BB banks or not have any "M&A" experience

Expand your outreach--look for Corporate or Business Development internships/roles at any corporation--try to focus on an industry of interest. Also, be careful about a BizDev role if it's more sales-oriented... I mentioned it because depending on the company may involve partnerships/licensing assets, along with some corporate dev/strategy...

Take your FINRA SIE and Series 63 right now--no need for sponsor

It's about crafting your story...

Business development internships have definitely been a consideration of mine. Same with finance rotational programs. Are these your typical corp dev roles? Would it be possible to lateral into banking from one of these roles?

Just read the job description carefully or if you're going through the interview process--ask clarifying questions with their internal recruiter.

As to transferable skills--if it's a traditional Corp Dev/Strategy role, then absolutely; moreover, [again] it's simply about how you craft your story. For example, "I worked in BizDev at XYZ, where I focused on corporate strategy, strategic partnerships, in- and out-licensing of assets" = these skills are absolutely transferable regarding a potential M&A scenario that may involve bespoke engagements/negotiations -- you can also tie in your learning of strategies surrounding particular subjects that may have been relevant such as [possibly] regulatory, patent estate portfolio, etc. "Performed financial analysis, modelling, etc"

For someone who has a pre-med or med background--it would be ideal to look at some biopharma/biotech roles, and traditionally speaking, the BizDev roles = Corp Dev
