Age for calling somebody "Mr." versus their first name

I'm currently a 20 year old college junior looking for an ibanking internship. What age for networking emails would you say is roughly the limit for me in addressing somebody as "Mr." versus their first name?

Really does not matter. You can use either for networking purposes. In the real world, you and your MD will be on a first-name basis, and we're at the time and age where these formalities won't really matter in Wall Street.

When I was recruiting, I always stuck with the first name, as to not potentially fuck up the gender of gender-ambiguous first names. Basically, the young guys will find it weird if you call them "Mr." but will probably chuckle and not count it against you. The old guys won't give a shit.

It really doesn't matter. The "worst" response I have gotten from people I have addressed as Mr. in emails were "Mr. XXX is my father. Please call me XXXX"

I always played it safe especially when sending out the first email or first phone call and used the Mr. / Ms. I'd usually receive something along the lines of: you can call me "XYZ" or they would sign with only their first name so I would take that as an okay to continue on a first name basis.

At the end of the day, it really doesn't matter. I just think if you're introducing yourself to someone for the first time it's better to use a salutation as it's a bit more formal. After that you can drop it. Once you've started work you will rarely use any formal salutations.

The safest practice (if not in person) is to go by Mr. or Mrs. until corrected. If in person, probably better to stick with the first name.

For instance, taking the example of my avatar, if you emailed me or spoke over the phone and called me Mr. Butler, I'd immediately correct you and say, "Please, call me G."

I am permanently behind on PMs, it's not personal.
