Am I cooked? CC to IB, will I pull it off?

Due to financial circumstances I cannot attend a 4-year college right now.

I’m about to be a new high school graduate and I’m enrolled in my local community college. Majoring in Business (AS).

I didn’t get into any amazing schools during admissions season, and my local schools are still far too expensive even with scholarships with a low ROI.

My goal: break into IB by any means necessary.

I have connections in the industry - and I've taught myself basic technicals over the past year.

I'm hoping to transfer out ASAP, into at least a semi-target. I’ll be aiming for targets though in the end.

What would you recommend to me in terms of standing out in the transfer process, tackling recruitment at later stages, and making my application solid.

Any advice is appreciated, thank you in advance to all who help.

I did it! Not only did I go to CC, but ending up transferring to a super non target (full ride). Definitely an uphill battle.

If you decide to transfer after two years, I would recommend reclassifying to a sophomore at your new school so that you qualify for junior summer internships. You will have to do an extra semester but it’s the highest probability of landing a role.

Best of luck!

Seems fairly easy to transfer to a better college in the states. I knew several people who transferred from community college at the US Uni I went to. I would:

  • Take it slow and get highest marks possible. If this means taking 1 or 2 classes at a time so you can ace them then so be it. Being able to transfer to a top tier university for your soph/junior year should be the goal
    • Transferring in as a Sophomore will make IB recruiting a lot easier for you
  • Save up some money as best you can. Benefit of local uni is you can live rent free and work part-time
    • There's really no point in paying $2,000 a credit hour for 101 level courses anyway.

I really wouldn't say you're even at a disadvantage so far mate. Just don't shit the bed at local uni.
