Anyone familiar with the Strategic Planning Group? If so, impressions? On the same note, does anyone know how they run their interviews? Is it more like a typically banking interview or do they go the consulting case study route?

know at the more senior level, group is designed to be a pipeline for future executive talent. at more junior level, will be excellent group for senior exposure, interesting work and likely pretty good pay. absolutely strong for b-school admissions.
vs. the alternatives of banking and consulting, this is more of a sure-thing right now. i imagine with amex, there will likely be solid corporate perks as well.
in terms of interviews, have no idea but would suspect it'd be much more consulting/case oriented.

Yeah, even if they were hiring, try going on the careers portion of their website and finding the right page to submit your resume. If you're not from one of the 17 arbitrarily-picked target schools (they recruit at Harvard, Duke, Cornell, Gtown, and Penn, but not Stanford, Yale, or Princeton), there's no way to apply online as you need some sort of access code from the career services office of your school. That's not to say there aren't other ways of getting your foot in the door, but there seem to be odd and significant entry barriers to their recruiting process.
Also, I heard one of the perks is everyone gets the AMEX "Black Card"....

From what I know, SPG is basically an internal consulting group. Very highly regarded. Interviews probably include case studies, but I'm not sure.
They have internal and external consulting that falls under SPG. But it seems internal is the regarded as the better one (limited travel) and i know M&A is in it and the CEO started their (post law school)
This group is extremely well regarded. Not really sure what you're looking for here but take it if you have the chance unless something else is clearly a better choice (like very obviously superior).

I interviewed w spg a few years ago as an undergrad. Getting interviewed at all is pretty difficult from what i hear but i had a connection at amex who got me in the mix (i did not go to one of their top target schools). The interview i had was a case interview over the phone, which was kind of weird BC i couldnt really gauge how long they wanted me to take on each step. It wasnt a particularly difficult case but they expect you to crush it BC they only hire a handful ppl a year, like 2-5. I thought it was a really good interview but i didn't end up getting to the next round so i guess it wasn't that great haha (apparently they interview ~50 ppl first round, ~10-12 for the second, and ~5-8 for the final). As stated above, it's a really good place to start in amex as you get streamlined into higher level jobs in other divisions after ~2 years in spg. And it looks good for b-school. Not too sure re external exits but i would suspect corporate or really any "strategy" or consulting type role. Hours are 40-45 and I think pay is competitive for consulting. It also has a superb alumni network and i think alums are pretty involved and helpful w younger ppl and ppl seem to take a lot of pride in having been in spg. I know this info is ~1.5 years late, but hopefully others currently looking into spg find it useful.
What type of case did you get (e.g. estimation, market entry, m&a?
Bumping an old thread. Does anyone know of similar groups at other payments companies? I ask because in the past I interviewed for an internal strategy role at Mastercard and it didn't seem like a great group. I ended up in Strategy Consulting (Financial Services focused) but now wouldn't mind going back into industry....

Only thing I know of with that name is the Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) Amex credit card, the card of choice of most consultants. Probably not what you're thinking of haha.
