talk about mortgaged backed securities, and the under performing sub prime market.
MBS. that is great. this is my second round interview for a securitization analyst position at a merchant bank.
Maybe add in some info on mortgage equity withdrawals, their immediate effects on the economy, the causes of MEW growth, and the potential pitfalls of said growth (that have since been realized in MBS market, specifically subprime). That takes it beyond a simple one-dimensional issue and shows you know all sides of the issue.
The key to a question like this in my opinion is to pick something about which your interviewer won't know a lot. You don't want to pick MBS if the interviewer might know a lot about it. Bankers are arrogant and he/she will want to make you feel bad if you get facts wrong...
