Anyone not repay their signing?

Quit before the one year mark and got a letter to repay. They gave me two amounts, the net and gross if I didn’t pay in ‘22 calendar year. The letter arrived one day before the 22’ calendar year cutoff so I didn’t make the cut and now I’m forced to pay the gross. These dumb fucks couldn’t afford overnight?

Anyway my question is has anyone not repaid their clawback? The language in the letter says I’d be ineligible for rehire until it’s repaid so I’m thinking unless I wanna go back I won’t pay. Doubt they’ll go to small claims. They don’t even accept AmEx so i can’t get points!

Following. I have been fighting one for 2 years, and fighting as in ignoring. I received a letter from a law firm saying they were "collecting" on behalf of the Company but I agree, I don't think the legal fees are even worth taking to court. They want me to pay full amount, I might offer prorated (I was there 18 out of 24 months) and if they reject it I'm just gonna go dark. I don't believe they'd trash my credit for that amount of money.

They won't go to small claims, they'll send it to collections. It's up to you if you want to chance it, but it can definitely F up your credit score if it hits collections.

You can try to negotiate with them, have seen people successfully prorate it (i.e. pay half if there for 6 months) as the firm ends up selling it to a collections firm for cheap anyway

I did this dance with Jefferies and just ended up paying back the gross. If you're still planning on working in the industry they can take you to FINRA mediation which could cause your Series 79 and other applicable licenses to get revoked on top of any credit score impacts. You can just claim it as a credit on your taxes - funny enough the repayment actually knocked me down a tax bracket and I got more money back than what I repaid.
