Hello, I am a senior analyst (we don't have proper analyst 1-2-3 title but I have been in the job for more than 2 years) at a non-BB bank. I should be promoted this year but I haven't really asked for it, since I assume I will and I have been top ranked since I joined. Should I ask for it anyway? Assuming I am getting promoted either way, what's the downside of not asking?

A senior told me when I first started 5yrs ago "you don't ask, you don't get". So always make sure you do, I've seen a few disappointments at my BB
Totally agree. Is the fact of asking going to affect bonus or base associate salary? One senior told me that if don't ask they will let me to believe that they pushed hard for the promotion and therefore they won't feel the need to give me a better bonus/better associate base, while if I make clear I expect the promotion they have to do something more than just promote me. What do you think?

I dunno. This question is going to be hard for us to answer because we don't know who your boss is or what is personality is like. Some will feel like you're entitled for asking, some will like it that you're asking and showing ambition, and others are assholes who will stiff you unless they know you're watching.
I think making your wishes and intentions clear for the next year as part of every annual and/or mid-year review is absolutely critical. It gives you a chance to provide your desired path and get feedback on what is needed to meet whatever requirements are necessary. If you missed that window, then ask your boss to grab a drink.
Agree with the above, expect nothing, ask for nothing, then when you get it celebrate.
Maybe instead of asking directly..can i have a promotion? Ask them in a way that they can't say no. For example..
Under what circumstances could I be considered a candidate for promotion? or, I was wondering what kind of criteria I would have to meet to be promoted to an associate?
idk what ur office culture is like, or if its more laid back that that, but just my two cents.
Depends how big the bank is. When I was working for an EB and asked for the jump to Associate, I made a pitch with a slide deck, printed documents, and lemon water to be distributed throughout the presentation. I didn't end up getting the promotion, but I fucked the MD's wife the next month.

That's awful; you shouldn't assume people prefer lemon water over regular.
Should have offered regular water with sliced lemons, so everyone could have gotten their preference. Probably would have earned you the promotion
