Aspiring IB

I graduated from college a few weeks ago. I didn’t get any full time IB offers, they’ve told me I still need to work on my technicals. I’ve been doing an investment banking internship based in Mumbai, India and Florida where I’ve been conducting industry research, financial analysis, and will soon be apart of the deal process.

The problem is my technicals still aren’t strong and I’m getting worried 😭 I have resources like Wall Street prep, 400 guide , and other courses and I’ve been networking but how can I study better and more effectively I’m getting worried.

Do I still have a chance ?

I recentally graduated from UMass Amherst with a Finance degree. The interview process was a bit structured, like they made me do a target lists and power point presentation. A couple of people from my school did the internship at the bank so I got connected from there

The minute I saw "Aspiring IB" I just knew it was an Indian who posted it. The amount of "Investment Banking Aspirant" titles I've seen from Pune or Uttar Pradesh or whatever on LinkedIn is NAUSEATING

Nothing, it's just Indian students use that title more than others and it is a very annoying title.

That’s tough love brotha. Any kid I see putting a space before a comma is getting DING DING DINGED.

I’d posit that you’re likely lacking some polish. It’s good to study up on your techs, but I’d pushback on the feedback you’ve received thus bar being “complete”. Often times, someone you’re talking to on the phone frankly doesn’t want to hurt your feelings and will treat bad candidates with kiddie gloves. I’m not saying you’re a bad candidate – I don’t know you. But I would suggest working on profile holistically and trying to get better at communicating “like a banker”. As the above commenter noted, people really do recognize patterns like the whole “IB Aspirant” thing…

Wish you the best cuh

Truthfully, having already graduated college will be the problem here.. very unlikely you will find a job at any recognizable brand at this stage. Those jobs fill ~2 years out (interns sign during sophomore year, and return rates are usually 80-90%; any additional spots fill before senior year). Technicals only take a few weeks to learn (and if you are still striking out on those you should consider that a red flag), timing and availability of jobs is the bigger issue.

You can try to convert your current internship to FT or look for other small boutiques who might give you a chance. You can also just get a non-IB finance job in the US and then try for an M7 or T15 MBA after 2-3 years, that'll deposit you into a BB/EB IB job.
