Attempting to Move to Specialty Investment Bank

Good Afternoon Fellow WSO Users,

I'll start of with some personal background: I began my college career as a computer science major who was invested in gaining experience and networking throughout campus. I went to a non-target private university in Connecticut, and by the end of my sophmore year I hated CS. I knew I was a decent programmer and I loved the stock market, so I made a switch to finance. I had an excellent internship experience with a top 3 insurance firm, but ultimately felt that insurance wasn't where I wanted to end up.
Fast forward some more, and I landed a job at a mid-cap biotech company in their AR department which was less than ideal. I worked hard, set up meetings with major business leaders, and eventually was promoted to a Project Leader within the Operations org. During the entirety of my employment, I have been pursuing my Masters in Finance to grow my experience and further help myself towards my goal of being an investment banker.

My question to you all is: would I have a shot at landing a IB position for a specialty firm? Since my new background is deeply rooted in Life Sciences and Biotechnology, I feel that with my experience and current industry knowledge, I am a great candidate but could be missing something that will eventually secure me a position. Any thoughts or questions are welcome!

Thanks for the feedback! I've thought about going into EBs & BBs but haven't gotten any feedback from applying. I think if I networked more I'd have a much better chance at landing a position for either. I'll definitely continue looking into that!
