B**a** Supervisor - Not Eligible for Rehire?

Background: I was an intern at a small fund; line manager forced me to work on Christmas Day and only informed me on Christmas Eve 5 pm when my flight back to hometown had been booked (I worked in east coast but live in SF/LA) and had certain tasks assigned already. I said no

Result: was “suggested” to resign by my line manager; I quit, and HR system recorded as “complete internship” and nothing bad, but it showed my manager as my direct supervisor.

My manager was angry and refused to talk anymore. And next year, I will have to go through a full-time background check at a BB IBD. So several questions:

For a BB IBD 1st year analyst background check,
1) I’ll definitely only put HR as a reference. But will background check agency ask HR for my line manager’s contact?
2) Saw some background checks have “eligibility for rehire” questions and I believe my manager would say NO. So will this question be asked?
3) If “not eligible for rehire” happen, can my offer be rescinded? Do I have a chance to explain?

Thx!

What kind of asshat asks their intern to work on Christmas knowing they have a flight scheduled to go back home?

Whatever you are be the best version you can

Typically HR addresses it and it's done because you technically resigned.

However, a friend of mine actually lost out on a role because they claimed he wasn't rehire-able. Won't go into details but basically he was working for an asshole previously.

Suggest you get a reference letter from HR on your internship and try to get away without them contacting the firm directly.

Also, you shoulda listened to what people said about Tobin & co mate.

Thanks for reply, and happy new year.

I actually have a piece of “proof of internship” from HR, and HR can only see the reason for leaving as “completed internship” in their system. I technically have lost contact with my supervisor.

I will definitely only give out the proof to background check company, and can give out HR contact if they press on it. But idk if the BGC company will call HR and ask to speak with my supervisor... I can also try to get a reference from another manager tho
