Background check question for a BB bank
I recently got an offer to work as a 2024 summer analyst with a BB investment bank. I applied for this role back in July last year. Back then, I was working with lets say organisation B (under the company A) - I only mentioned the organisation B without mentioning the company A in my CV, but a simple google search will yield that organisation B is hosted by company A. I also have an employment letter under company A and it also mentions organisation B in it.
My contract with organisation B ended in July 2023, as such, at that point of time I indicated that I worked in organisation B until July 2023 in my CV. However, in August, my contract got extended with company A (under different organisation/department - lets say department C and this is not indicated in my CV since I applied for the role in July) and I am still working with the same company until now.
I will undergo background check soon but I have not received any detail yet. Would there be any issue for my condition mentioned above and do I even need to worry about this? Should I wait until the new company reach out to me for the background check (they use 3rd party vendor for this) to inform them about my employment status? Do I need to inform the HR about this? (I dont want to spook the hr unnecessarily for this)
I think background checks are more about making sure you haven’t committed pedophilia so don’t worry about it (unless you are a pedo)
Dumbass.
We’ve found the pedo
Background checks are to see if you were employed at the companies that you stated during the dates that you stated. I don't see you having done anything wrong here? Although, it probably would've made the background checkers life easier if you mentioned the organisational structure more clearly.
You would only need to worry if you outright lied about your employment, e.g., you said you worked at JPMorgan in x capacity but you were never employed there, or you lied about the dates e.g., saying you worked there for a year when you were only there for six months.
If the background checkers have any confusion with what you provided, then they will reach out to you to ask for clarification.
Thanks for that! Maybe it’s me overthinking about what could go wrong after I accept the offer. I am just afraid if they think I would lie about where I was working since I did not mention they main employer name in my resume, instead I mentioned the sub-organization of the main employer.
I don't think it matters. It is not like you were actually working for Mizuho, but you put down you were working for Greenhill. You put down the organisation you were working for.
For my case, the employer is a university (lets call it university A). It has a research institute (lets call this Research Institute XYZ). I did not mention “university A” and only wrote “Research Institute XYZ”.
It doesn't sound like you've done anything wrong. In fact, there is precedence.
The university I attended has "research centres/clusters", which obviously fall under the university - however people only put down the actual research centre. It's normal.
Don't stress.
