Bank Groups Interaction / Roles

Hi all,

Can someone working in the industry clarify how groups interact in scenarios like the following:

Say a PE firm wants to acquire a company as a portfolio company. How would the roles / tasks be broken down for the M&A, Sponsors, and LevFin group. Who would do the modeling in this case? It's also unclear to me how lev fin and sponsors differ. Clearly, one is product and the other is coverage, but PE firms often leverage the shit out of companies, so does lev fin only work on, say junk bond offerings, while a sponsors analyst would be doing the same tasks, just for the PE funds?

Thanks
