If you want to solely focus on Japan go for it. They don’t even look at other deals in Asia so it gets stale
Well, that is not a very future orientated approach. Good to know ! Thank you
Are you from Japan?
No I am not,
I will start my undergraduate journey next september and am looking for destinations, since I probably might not want to be all that long in europe.
Good luck! Consider Hong Kong if you’re looking at Asia as they cover all of Asia Pacific apart from Japan
I appreciate it!
Working in a front office role in Japan requires Japanese proficiency as your coverage will solely be focused on the regional market (I.e. hence the term APAC ex. Japan). There may be more leeway when it comes to sales & trading given its less “client-facing” than IB.
I would say as of now, Singapore is probably the only viable option for an English-only candidate. The lions share of roles in Hong Kong requires mandarin proficiency or secondary Asian language proficiency in roles that are more focused on interacting with regional satellites (I.e. Korean to cover Korea deals from HK).
But then again, roles in Singapore are heavily targeted towards local candidates as the government has been making the push to encourage companies to hire locally instead of internationally which has made obtaining a visa extremely difficult.
Considering all those things and the amount of work you have to put in beforehand (learning the Language), do you think the compensation satisfy it or makes it even?
The poster is correct in saying that the majority of roles in HK require mandarin, but there is still a larger number of English-only roles in HK available than Singapore given that HK is the HQ for most financial institutions/funds. If you're looking to break into capital markets roles, speaking only English is def doable with many examples you can find on LinkedIn. Source: many foreign friends who work in finance in HK, especially over the last 3 years
Prerequisite for Japan is fluent language and knowledge of local business culture. These factors are not overcome later, you either have them or you don't.
Fokusiraj se na velike centre, u prvom redu London. Srećno!
I appreciate it.
Hvala puno na poruci ako nebi bio problem imo bih jos koja pitanja ako si otvoren da pisemo?
