BB CB vs MM IBD
Currently a first year doing corporate banking at a BB (housed within IB) and have the opportunity to move into an MM IB (HW/Baird/Piper/Blair). Goal is to eventually jump into MM PE. Dilemma is whether should stay in the BB and try to be a star performer and lateral to IB within BB after first/second year, or jump into MM IB and try to go to PE from there? Another question is if I did take the MM IB offer, would it be a bad look to lateral again after that to a BB/EB IB to get better exits? So basically lateraling 3x before PE? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
100% MM IBD

Definitely MM IB will give you a better chance than BB CB. I would be wary about lateraling back to a higher IB after that though, 3 jobs would likely be looked at critically. You should be able to get MM PE looks out of those MM banks.
Since you have the MM offer and would have to 1) work your ass off for another year and 2) hope the hiring situation improves in order to switch to IB at your BB I think taking the current offer would be best.
Helpful! Thank you
I would personally wait out the current shitty environment and then lateral internally or externally to another BB. I still see more BB/EB backgrounds in MM PE, even though MM IB is more applicable.
