depends on the magnitude of the loss. this is the whole fallacy of sales people and their 'sales credits'. if you bring in 10mm of biz, and then trading loses 100mm, guess who's not getting paid? everyone.

investment banking analyst pay at bear will match the rest of the street. the analyst pay is not truly tied to performance of the entire firm overall, but moreso tied to what every other bank is paying. the same is true everywhere - thats why all banks pay the same, give or take 5-10K.
the hedge funds that are being hit hard only had about $40mm of the firms senior officers money in it, although who knows the extend of any other exposure Bear has to the subprime market.
I have a friend who is in Bear TMT, did $85K as a top first year and is expecting $100k for 2nd year.
$85k was their top bucket for first years last year as well... strange... no increase at all? You people really think it's because of those hedge funds tanking?
