Best IBD Groups at Morgan Stanley?
Hi all,
I will be interning at MS this summer for IBD and I have the group selection phase coming up. I am wondering if anyone can comment on the various IBD groups at MS regarding their culture, exit opps, hours, return offer rate, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
Also, if anyone has tips regarding how to best position myself for the selection process, I am open to advice!

What are your reasons? I've heard a lot about how Media & Comm is a top group and you didn't list it in your top 6.

To the OP, what are your long-term goals? And are you industry-agnostic at this point?
I am primarily thinking private equity long-term.
Yes, I am industry-agnostic as of right now but I do have some preferences which I will certainly take into account. For the sake of the thread though, in order to have unbiased opinion and to help others who are viewing this as well, I am curious to hear people's opinions when looking at the groups in a vacuum.
Surprised you'd put nat res at the top since their energy team is one of the weakest on the Street. Do they have strong mining and chemicals verticals?
Chemical vertical is very weak compared to CS, JPM, CS, DB, UBS

What locations is this for? Their Nat Res team in Europe is one of their weakest, definitely not number one... Go for M&A, FIG or Tech

Great to meet you as well! I have not heard of anything from HR either, but someone who interned last summer mentioned the process would happen around February. I believe it is a one day event in New York.

How about for MS HK (besides M&A)? Would also be great to know if there are differences in group "rankings" for PRC vs. non-PRC deals.
Any insight into their Energy group in Houston compared to the more spoken about groups (Jeff, RBC, CS)? Looking to recruit this upcoming cycle

Appreciate the insight, MS seems to be pretty under the radar here at WSO and even more so with their energy group. Have pretty strong connections in MS, WF, Jeff and BAML, any suggestions on which I should hone in on the most? Obviously spreading the net wide and getting to know the culture, but people seem to be great across the board in Houston

Currently, I am looking in more detail at the industry teams and the M&A team as they are the most appealing to me, however I would greatly appreciate any insight into the different teams' reputations, any teams to avoid or any teams to gun for.

Don't know much about it. I believe it has a good culture but longer hours than the average.
