Best Time to Reneg

I'm a sophomore at a target. I'm planning on Reneging on my sophomore summer internship. I got this internship not through OCR just through the company's portal.

Do you guys think I should do it now (early January) and hope it goes well or just wait until late May (Near the end of recruiting/when OCR is done) to tell this firm. I'm fine not working for this firm again just don't want to impact Junior year recruiting.

If you’re going to renege do it as early as possible.

Always in the morning at the beginning of the week (Monday or Tuesday latest)

Renege over the phone, don’t be a pussy, and follow up with writing.

Thank the team for spending the time on your application, wish them the best, explicitly mention you are rescinding your acceptance effective immediately and lastly:

Do not tell them where you are going.

The reason why you should let them know ASAP is so that they have time to recruit someone else.
