Best way to properly learn DCF before training
Hey guys,
I am trying to learn how to accurately do a DCF, public comps and precendent transactions analys. I have a pretty good grasp on everything but am looking for a good self study course to give me all the details to be technically accurate. I was thinking of doing the Training the Street (TTS) corporate valuation self study program. Does anyone have any feedback on that program or another one that is very good?
I used BiWS awhile back and still refer to it. Helped a lot and was fairly simple. Be able to grasp the concept and talk about it intelligently. No SA position expects you to have the modeling knowledge of an industry veteran, but a little know-how never hurt.
Look at the advert at the bottom of this page. It's great.
Public comps are more about identifying relevent comps to be honest. Use CapIQ quick comps doesn't usually work that well. Most people will just plug tickers into a model which will pull in relevent multiples using thomson.
Same with transaction comps really, you'll just do a CapIQ run screening for transactions, export to excel and clean it up a little.
Learn to do DCFs (Originally Posted: 03/07/2010)
Hey Guys,
I was lucky enough to score an interview with a company for a financial analyst position as a freshman. The job description says I will be performing DCFs and I'm worried I might get questioned on it in the interview. As a freshman, I haven't taken any classes where I learn how to do that so I was wondering where I would be able to learn, or at least get a framework.
PM me with your email and I will send you a couple DCF's
Need to learn DCF + Comp valuation, what program should I use? (Originally Posted: 07/23/2011)
Like I said, I need to learn these two valuation techniques for my sophomore SA. Whats the best program to learn this stuff? TTS looks like the cheapest, as its only $100 for the program that teaches me both of these methods. Anyone have any insight?
try reading Investment Banking by Pearl and Rosenbaum. it's almost like a textbook written by bankers instead of academics.
BIWS or macabus.com if you don't want to pay for the tutorial.
