Between Freshman and Sophomore Year

I'll be going to UChicago next year, and I want to go into investment banking. I was just wondering how I could maximize my chances.

I live in the Charlotte area so would it help if I do something with a firm? Would it probably be unpaid? There's also a Federal Reserve of Richmond bank branch here, so if I do something with them instead of a bank, would it matter?

Other Serious advice would be appreciated.
