BNP Paribas IB reputation in NYC?

I just got an offer for BNP Paribas SA 2025 for IB corporate coverage in NYC! One of my SD interviewers said they’re willing to put me in which ever group I want (TMT) later on, which I’m pretty happy about, but I’ve heard mixed reviews about BNPP’s rep on the street. I know they’re a smaller shop in NYC but it seems like they’re growing which could be exciting. I also know their TMT group has been creating a good name for themself in recent years, especially in telecom.

Any honest insights about the bank’s growth potential, comp for analysts, exit opps, etc? Thanks!

Congratulations on your offer at BNP Paribas for the Summer Analyst position in 2025! It's great to hear about the flexibility they're offering you in terms of group placement, especially with your interest in TMT. Based on the most helpful WSO content, here's a breakdown of insights regarding BNP Paribas' reputation, particularly in the New York City area:

  1. Growth Potential: BNP Paribas has been recognized for its efforts to expand and strengthen its presence in the United States, including in the TMT sector. The bank's commitment to growth, especially in strategic areas like TMT, suggests a positive trajectory. This could provide a dynamic and potentially rewarding environment for you.

  2. Compensation for Analysts: While specific compensation figures can vary and may not be explicitly detailed in the WSO dataset, BNP Paribas is generally competitive within the industry standards. Compensation often reflects the bank's European roots, with a balanced approach to work-life and benefits.

  3. Exit Opportunities: Analysts at BNP Paribas, especially those in high-performing groups like TMT, have found solid exit opportunities. The bank's growing reputation and deal flow in specific sectors like telecom can enhance your profile for future opportunities, whether in private equity, venture capital, or other areas within finance.

  4. Reputation on the Street: While BNP Paribas might be considered a smaller shop compared to some bulge bracket banks in NYC, its focused growth strategy, especially in sectors like TMT, has been positively received. The bank's global network and strong European presence can also add a unique dimension to your experience and professional development.

In summary, joining BNP Paribas in NYC, particularly with an interest in TMT, could offer a unique opportunity to be part of a growing platform with international reach. It's always beneficial to consider how the bank's culture, growth strategy, and sector focus align with your career goals. Networking with current and former employees could provide additional insights to help make your decision.

Corporate coverage is not IB, it is corporate banking. Both the corporate and investment bank are housed under the same division. I’m sure BNPP has a solid corporate banking platform given them large balance sheet and commensurate lending capabilities. Congrats on ur offer and good luck

It's definitely banking -- so if that's your goal, congrats. you made it

But truly, it's a crazy small operation where there's little differentiation between industry groups.  A lot of the work you do will be focussed on cap markets in a junior role.  Some M&A and will actually be cross border/interesting, but you won't see it on the front page of the WSJ

Pay is sub par and i've heard they weirdly pay MBA associates more than A2A promotes, which blows my mind
