Consumer Retail is one of the stronger groups at Barclays and basically has a pipeline into the top consumer-focused PE shops. Media/comms is considered to be a tier below the top groups at Barclays, but still a good group to be in if you're interested in the sector. Have come across good people in both groups.
Above comment is pretty accurate.
CRG is a great group; really friendly people, good culture, good dealflow, and good exits (confirmed by friends at generalist funds, CRG is one of the groups they would recruit from). Everyone I have interacted with from the group is a genuinely nice person.
CMG was known as the lifestyle group at the bank/weaker deal flow/exits. Heard this changed during covid and the hours became much shittier. Also heard they do less M&A relative to other coverage groups (more financings). Have had mixed interactions with members of the group, most seem nice…
Would take CRG over CMG in a heartbeat. Similar hours but better exit opps/deal flow and great culture.
Thank you.
More insights would be greatly appreciated.
