Boutique Email Help

So basically I haven't got any summer opportunities at any of the BB's so I'm currently sending out emails to literally every Boutique I can find. Literally 0 replies. Has anyone got any advice on what I should say in the email or indeed a proforma or template I could use? I'm from the UK so I guess the corporate culture is no different to the US.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you're comfortable with it, you should post your email template so that people can give you feedback. Otherwise, it'll be hard for people to tailor their information to help you.

If you don't want to share it, I would say find a pre-existing template and modify it a bit to fit your background/goals.

That is definitely why you are not gaining any traction. It is very rare that one of them would take the time to reply to you. Not only do they have no interest in reading about potential analysts, but also they have no involvement with the recruiting process. Instead, focus on emailing 2nd year analysts or associates, especially if you have a common connection (i.e. same alma mater etc.)

Right, that explains a lot, I thought that as I was applying to boutiques, it would be the more senior guys I'd need to communicate with. I mean a lot of the boutiques in applying to in the UK are 10 man shops. It also sucks when I'm communicating with them on LinkedIn because 9/10 they always check my profile after reading my message and then never reply because my LinkedIn profile is full of part-time jobs I've had whilst in education and no relevant financial experience. But if i take them off, then my profile would be pretty empty.

What university are you at? I started uni in England at a non-target/polly and found the same problem as you. I emailed around 300 companies in my second year and didn't even get a whisper in return. Unfortunately, due to the demand, most companies won't look at you unless you're the perfect candidate. Eventually, I got tired of it and re-applied through ucas to top 15 finance unis to start again. I had mediocre a-levels and got into one of them based off my first two year grades at the original uni (76% average). It was an awful process having to start again; i.e paying for the tuition myself as student finance only fund for 4 years of study, and also having to 're-do' the first two years of uni again. HOWEVER, it was the best decision I have ever made. During the first year of my course at the new uni I started sending out the same e-mails. I started actually getting replies even as a first year! I'm now about to finish my first year here and in June I have accepted a front office fixed income trading position at a boutique in the city. Maybe look into this route if its possible? It has been worth it for me for sure. Unfortunately, if you don't it will be next to impossible to break into BBs let alone boutiques. It's a hard truth to swallow but it's one In which you should prepare for.
