Building a good relationship with a mentor?

wold you mind helping a female chimp out?
Some alumni from my high school are big IB bosses. I recently cold emailed one of them to ask for career advice and he responded within a few minutes. He gave me his cell phone number and suggested that I call him with specific questions. The tone of his email was very friendly and he even complimented me for reaching out to him because he believes that seeking for guidance is the first step students should make career wise.
Guys, how do I start that relationship and keep it going after the phone conversation. FYI, I am good at building models, I love DCF , IT etc...

You should really consider changing the title of this thread - I was definitely expecting something very different.
As to your question, M&I has some good info on this I'm sure, but the key highlights: - Be interested in the guy and his career path / progression - Don't straight-up hit him up for a job (though it sounds like you weren't going to do that anyway) - Make sure your interest in the industry comes across, and that it at least appears genuine

I would probably:
(0) think about what i want from the relationship (find out more about industry... do i wanna work in it? OR job prep..) to build the other steps, (1) rehearse my resume spiel, (2) read on his company (to get bg and do a bit of homework and come off as interested, not to cite his company's defensive interval ratio), (3) prepare specific questions (i would do this for any ice-breaker work contact w/o suggestion, even friends), (4) skim his general industry and world news, (5) roughly know your highschool's conversational achievements (if he's listed himself to be available, he's got some interest in the HS)
