When first years start getting contacted for buy side opps, are all BB equal in the initial looks they get?

No, unfortunately not all BBs are equal. In fact, even within BBs, groups will get different looks because some groups are viewed as more competitive than others.
Not exactly - groups generally matter the most. GS / MS are generally held to a higher regard but other than that the rest are pretty much the same. Good groups at BBs like BAML Lev Fin for example will get very similar looks and attention from headhunters as GS / MS kids.
From people I've spoken with it's very group specific. Also GS / MS on average get more looks than the other BBs.
