Can I ask to start earlier?
Hi, starting my first year job in July of next year. I was wondering if it would be possible to ask the firm to start earlier? Is this a possibility, has anyone done it? Don't think I'll travel that much after school is done, and I get bored easily with too much free time.
I know for a fact that many banks allow this. However, does anyone know how bonuses would work? Would you receive a larger bonus than the rest of your class for starting a few months early?
No impact on bonus.
Unless you need the funds I’d advise against this OP. This is like the only free time you have left until retirement
So you only make base? Comes out to below minimum wage when accounting for hours, yeah no thanks
Strongly advise against this… you have a lifetime to work. Enjoy the free time!
Don’t do this. Spend the time studying for the gmat, preparing on your own, reading books, networking for your next role, learning programming skills, while you also travel, hang with friends, and workout/get a in great shape.
You have your entire life to work, you have very few several month gaps to decompress and pursue interests that only further your development. Starting early is how you get burned out and end up not prepared for recruiting.
I’m in the same position but really need the money - would you suggest the same advice?
Yeah with a modification—live at home or with a friend or relative.
In the scheme of things, the extra 2 months of wages isn’t going to change your life really. I assume really need the money is a student debt issue not a mob issue. Paying off your loans 2 months later isn’t worth not being prepared for the role.
Depends on the market and group needs.
