Can I say I’m disabled on applications
Hello all, currently a rising soph at a west coast target (UCLA, USC, UCB) and I was wondering if there was any advantage to saying I was disabled. I have had multiple concussions (some that caused memory loss) and my doctor told me I’d be a vegetable if I had any more. I’m able to function obviously but under the disability sections it lists traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) as a disability. Could I use this to my advantage?
Yeah if you think about it analysts are always looking to hire interns who suffered brain damaged, especially useful for those longer nights.
This is a new low
Yeah my MD told me to fast track any applicants who self identified as concussed, brain damaged, etc.
Not surprised. All the brain power required by such candidates can be cultivated during regular business hours and when the threshold has been met, they can easily be ubered back to their residence through wheelchair-accessible vans
Honestly, it’s marginally better than having one less limb so I’d say go for it !
Troll post surely.
Its not gonna help ur app at all
If you have a diagnosed disability (and you are not making this up), by a board certified medical professional or clinic and your condition is an accepted disability under state or federal law: then yes, you may mention this in the HR section of your application. Disabilities would normally only be requested after making an offer of employment, unless the candidate is required to be accommodated for the interviews themselves.
Not true anymore. Even the online applications people make you fill out include disabilities now. I wouldn’t recommend checking the box though.
Can analysts reviewing apps see if you ticked the box off?
Can empathize with you given the number of entitled Hawk Tuah DEI Beckys you will be competing against. Do what you go to do soldier …
No advantage. I have a chronic illness that I fortunately resolved. Some of my apps earlier in college I clicked yes disabled. The next year I was doing much better and clicked no. Zero difference unless there is a specific program and even then, better to go in without any interviewer bias (negative or positive). The best thing we can do with ‘marginalized groups’ is treat them equally and hold them to the same standard. The prejudice of low expectations destroys value.
