Can you get dismissed for trying to lateral?

Had a few phone interviews recently and the VP asked where I had been after leaving the office to take the call (20-30mins).

Maybe I’m super paranoid, but there is a chance MDs might know eachother, they might somehow find out…

In general what happens if a bank knows you are actively trying to leave, I imagine it’s just an awkward situation but can they dismiss you for not being ‘committed to the team’ or some bs reason like that?

Any stories/advice?

I'm going through this right now. When I have calls with recruiters during the day I usually try to work from home or when that's not possible I'll go to my office's lobby and come up with some excuse like "my dad's coworkers son is interested in applying to the University I went to and I told him I would have a call with him to talk about it" or something random like that that doesn't bring up any questions. I have an interview this Friday and I told my boss I have a doctor's appointment to get my tonsils checked.

Even if MD A knows MD B or somehow they are connected, it would be an extremely unpopular move to expose your situation.

That is essentially burning bridges with you, like crash and burn kind of burn.

You won't want to work for that kind of an MD. This is essentially self-selection. If MD B ever rats you out to MD A and you are interviewing with B, now you know for sure B is a shitty person.

Going through the lateral process now. Good luck to all of us.
