Cap IQ Formula Sheet

Anyone know where I can find a list of most popular Cap IQ formulas or willing to post a link to it? Thanks

What is Capital IQ

S&P Capital IQ is a research and analysis organization that combines “millions of data points from millions of sources.” Similar to other market data sources such as Bloomberg, ThomsonOne and Factset, CapIQ can help with investment decisions, equity research, portfolio analytics, understanding M&A transactions, market trends and more.

CapIQ Excel Plugin

Capital IQ is a powerful tool made even more powerful by its Excel plugin. Check out their helpful cheat sheet of popular formulas to improve your analysis.

S&P Global Markets Intelligence also has a few demo videos available such as the following:

CapIQ Client Services

In addition to the cheat sheet above, the best resource may be the CapIQ Client Services team. They are known for top-notch customer service and actually answering questions, sometimes walking you through how to build formulas if needed. Here are various forms of contact, if you don’t have a direct contact already:

  • Email [email protected]
  • Instant Message them from the link in the "Contact Us" drop-down menu at the top of the Capital IQ web page
  • EMEA: +44 (0) 20 7176 1234
  • AMERICAS: +1 888 806 5541
  • ASIA PACIFIC: + 852 2533 3565

I'm pretty sure CIQ has a manual (might be a little outdated now) for this sort of thing. You should call or chat someone in client support.

Also, there's a formula builder with a search function.

My school, despite being a crappy non target, has a crazy collection of licenses (Capital IQ being one of them) but I haven't really had a chance to play around with it (getting my login info tomorrow) what is it typically used for? is it just a reference database of banks and funds since that is all I've really seen it used for on here.

First of all, Screening -> Companies

It's very possible that I'm just dumb, but I'm only returning 10 results.

Geographic Locations: Singapore or Greater London or San Francisco Area or New York City Area or Philadelphia Area

Investment Type: Hedge Funds or Principal Investing or Principal Investing Fund of Funds or Investor in Funds

Industry Specific Financials: Assets Under Management : Greater than $400MM USD

Great, looks like I'm on the right track then. Thanks!

Do you have any recommended screening criteria? I'm a third year student studying Finance, and would like to find relevant work experience in the field.

use the business description screener (shortcut is "bd") and search for key words. you can filter by number of employees as well. if you can give me a more specific description of what you are looking for i might be able to help you put a screen together.

"For I am a sinner in the hands of an angry God. Bloody Mary full of vodka, blessed are you among cocktails. Pray for me now and at the hour of my death, which I hope is soon. Amen."

I am not sure if either of these can be run out of CapIQ. Would be much better off with Thomson or MergerMarket. You can click the screening tab at the top and screen for all transactions using the criteria builder (ie data, industry, public/private). Then when you get your output you can add an output column and search for advisor and add that which should give you what you want. I would honestly just call CIQ or use the IM in the upper right of CapIQ and just ask...that's what they are there for. Going forward anytime it takes you more than a minute or two to find what you are looking for in any of the financial providers I would call and ask. The bank pays alot of money for them.

danielle Hi, my name is Danielle. How can I help you? danielle To screen for a league table on S&P Capital IQ:

Select Transactions from the Screening tab menu.
Click Advisors and Fees under General Transaction Details.
Select Advisor Fee ($) from the Advisor Fees and Count pick list.
Select Greater Than in the Value drop-down menu.
Type 0 in the Value field.
Click Add Criteria.
Click View Results.
Select By Transaction Advisors (Advisor to Any Role) Advisor Fee ($) (Include subs/parents) from the Group Resultsdrop-down menu.
Click Number of Transactions to sort by descending value.

Note: The above screen can be narrowed to include specific types of transactions such as M&A's or IPO's. It can also be narrowed by geography. Note: To expand results, omit steps 4 and 5.
