Career advice - 3.9 in finance from a non-target school
I have a 3.9 in finance from a non-target school, have internship experience with a BB AM, but didn't land any finance jobs last year out of school so took the job as an accountant for a mid size company
I tried again this recruiting season by interviewing with few of the banks but I think there is little hope, one of hte reasons being that I'm already out of school,
Any advice how to break in to banking?
want to get my foot in..
If I don't break in, I'm thinking just applying to business school after scoring really high on the GMAT.
anything will be appreciated,
thanks in advance!
so why didn't u take the FT offer doing AM, u mention you wanted to break into finance.. AM is finance
I didnt get an offer
awkward......
that was self explanatory... unless I'm stupid to a point I don't know that asset mgmt is finance. lol
Yea, I thought it was self explanatory too, but your title said BREAK into finance----you already broke in during your internship--- perhaps title it --- re-breaking into finance LOL
but on a serious note-- what about your contacts in the AM-- do you keep in touch with them?
well I used to, but all of 'em got replaced with new directors and managers when the company was bought out by Wells Fargo
Would willing to take a non paid intership position be a leveragable method to break in again? just a thought
You can try Merrill Lynch's unpaid PWM. You can also probably break into PWM at other BB's like at GS. They don't look for any finance background, just a good enough gpa and "interest in the markets" or whatever the heck that means. Just tell them how you love talking to clients and basically being a total suckup (in more business terms) and that PWM is something you always wanted to do and to get to learn more about the business from top advisors. That's probably enough to get you the job.
