Career vs. Location Preferences

Should I set aside my personal living preferences to pursue my career? For some background, I am a rising senior who has had three different internships during my college years. One internship in business development for an asset manager, one in M&A, and one in consulting. I enjoyed my internship in M&A the most and have decided to pursue IB post-graduation. However, I am not originally from any major city. I grew up in a relatively small area and I really enjoyed it. I never felt that I was much of a "city person" and after having lived in Chicago for a summer I feel that is definitely the case. However, it is obvious that IB is generally most concentrated in cities like NY, Chi, and LA. I just can't imagine myself enjoying living in these places full time. That combined with the astronomical cost of living makes these cities feel even less appealing (just to me personally). Is there a way to have the best of both worlds? Living in an area I am more comfortable, even just a more moderately sized city like Charlotte, Milwaukee, Colorado Springs, etc. Or is there no choice but to live somewhere like NY or Chi if I want to achieve my professional goals? Any advice is appreciated.
