Centerbridge, Oaktree, Angelo Gordon - Information?

I am trying to find out more information on these firms and the difficulty of getting a job there. Any information would be super helpful. Not much recent information so wanted to ask. Thanks in advance

Each are very difficult to get into. It'll help to have a strong investor mindset developed, to understand distressed debt as a whole, and even to understand a little bit about the fund's typical strategy (you can glean this information from general info on this website, but especially through networking).

It's hard to get to these funds without a restructuring/distressed debt background. Having private credit internships in undergrad can help you land a position at a firm like this, though it's important to note that it's almost impossible to get to a fund like this straight out of undergrad. VERY few people do it at the moment, and you typically have to know someone. I'm posting this part so people are aware, even though you're clearly out of college with your ASO3 background.

People from strong levfin groups that are heavy on the modeling will also have a pretty decent shot. People from strong levfin groups without much modeling will have a slight shot, but only if they can demonstrate their technical aptitude by looking at models from groups outside of their own. All in all, it helps coming from these groups because you'll have the ability to demonstrate a strong interest in credit, but strong technical skills are crucial to land at a place like the ones you mentioned.

People from plain M&A groups will have a shot if they express interest in a distressed debt opportunity like this, but it's most helpful to have a demonstrated interest in distressed credit. From plain M&A (without previous distressed experience/without a restructuring background) this typically looks like going to a PE firm with a loan-to-own strategy first (like Apollo) and then transitioning to a firm like the ones you mentioned.

Phenomenal firms all around. People are smart, you'll have some job security at least, and I've heard the culture is pretty good at these places. The one thing to consider though is your hours - it's not like banking 2.0 but it's not typically a 40-60hr work week either.
