Citigroup 2026 Group Rankings

Ok, enough of the outdated rankings. People are ranking based off of prestige, deal flow, and exit opps. NYC

My list is based off of survivability and chance of even getting exit opps.

1. GAM hands down. They work, but not too much. They have live deal experience and the top exits. They have fun and they actually are able to survive 2-3 years. I don’t know anyone that left early.

2. REGL. Yeah it’s real estate, but atleast they have fun and everyone exits well even into vanilla PE.

3. Consumer and Retail. They’ve been gaining market share and treat their juniors nicely.

4. Tech / Chemicals / Clean Energy (although they may be gone) / ECM / DCM / LevFin / FinStrategy / Special Situations / Power / FIG

Yeah the exits are meh but atleast your life won’t suck.

5. Healthcare / Comms / Industrials

Life will suck. You might exit or you might not. Either way expect to give it all up. I mean vacations, friends, social life, life, life, life….you get the point.

6. M&A

Heard they work on shifts. Seriously. Attrition is bad…but attrition for Healthcare, Comms, and Industrials is still pretty bad.

Based on the most helpful WSO content, here’s a breakdown of Citigroup's group rankings for 2026 in NYC, considering survivability, deal flow, and exit opportunities:

  1. GAM (Generalist Asset Management)

    • Top-ranked for balancing live deal experience, strong exits, and manageable work-life balance. Juniors reportedly survive the full tenure without early exits.
  2. REGL (Real Estate Group Lending)

    • Focused on real estate, offering solid exits into vanilla PE. Known for a fun culture and decent work-life balance.
  3. Consumer and Retail

    • Gaining market share with a reputation for treating juniors well. Exit opportunities are improving.
  4. Mid-Tier Groups

    • Includes Tech, Chemicals, Clean Energy, ECM, DCM, LevFin, FinStrategy, Special Situations, Power, and FIG.
    • While exits are average, these groups are noted for a more sustainable lifestyle compared to others.
  5. Healthcare, Comms, and Industrials

    • Known for intense workloads and high attrition. Exits are possible but come at the cost of significant personal sacrifices.
  6. M&A

    • Infamous for its demanding culture and shift-based work structure. Attrition rates are high, comparable to Healthcare, Comms, and Industrials.

This ranking reflects a mix of prestige, exit opportunities, and the ability to maintain a reasonable work-life balance.

It's one of the sweatiest groups at Citi. High turnover and bad culture from what I've heard

Software?

i know industrials exits are very good, but what about HC and M&T? Heard HC is making a push but no idea where people are exiting to

This is the problem. Don’t focus on exits as an intern. By the time you come in it could all be changed. You know what won’t change? The culture.

They seem like they have good culture but this is an incoming interns perspective who only talked to people for group placement

Can anyone provide context on C&R. What is the group's deal flow and culture like is it a good group to be in for exits/overall
