Coffee chat etiquette

Secured a timeframe to speak to an investment banking associate.

Currently an incoming Canadian target school freshman.

Don’t wanna fuck this up by coming across as rude so wanted to ask any one of you guys who are knowledgeable in this to provide me with some basic etiquette before I follow through with the chat.

Any advice would be deeply appreciated.

dont do the "mhm yeah right okay etc." that you do in person over the phone

other then that just be a person - dont call him sir

Come prepared for the chat with a rough guide of questions you'd like to ask, but don’t stick to them too rigidly—you want the conversation to flow naturally. Personally, I found it helpful to ask why they chose their coverage group or bank, as it gives you good reference point to frame your Why Our Bank when interviewing down the line.

See these all the time. Just be polite and don't come across as robotic or weird. Open the conversation and ask questions in a more relaxed and professional manner rather than being rigid.
