Commuting to midtown from Jersey City?

Anyone here reside in either Jersey City, Hoboken or Journal Square and commute to midtown? What's the commute like and would you recommend or just stay somewhere in midtown?

From streeteasy it seems like one could get a nicer place there for lower monthly rent but I'm not very familiar with the neighborhoods

Average to midtown east probably ~45 minutes depending how close you are to one of the stations

If you catch both trains right away including connection to MTA, can be 30-35 mins but that is a rarity. If trains are busted or running behind, up to ~an hour.

If new to NYC recommend doing your first year in the city. Not midtown, you shouldn't be right outside of work but do a search on here of neighborhoods to live as a 1st year for a start. Nothing wrong with Jersey, but get familiar with Manhattan, make some friends and then make an educated decision on where to go next.

Jersey is a great commute if you are near the PATH but parts of midtown will get annoying (45+ minutes) and in many parts of midtown, you'd be much better off doing LIC instead of Jersey.
