What has been compensation been like for 1st-year TMT / IBD tech analysts in San Francisco? Non-GS/MS BBs and MMs specifically

$110-210k somewhere in that range. More likely between 125k-185k. With a median closer to 150k depending on stub versus full year bonus in first year.
Just accepted a return offer from a MM in SF and, in my opinion, if it is Cowen or Jefferies, I would avoid unless it is your only MM option.
Isn't Jefferies SF a top shop?
Some seniors left, and new MD's came in. From the perspective of a few buddies, the deal flow and modeling work wasn't high-quality enough to tolerate the sweatshop aspect. Consensus among a few SA's was Allen & Co, Barclays, or Centerview over Jefferies in the MM range.
To each their own however.
Not even close to jpm sf and that also isn't even a top shop. Consensus top shops on west coast are gs tmt/ms menlo/qatalyst/moelis la.
I've heard that Qatalyst comp is insane (over $200k)

Q is actually insane. Analyst comp is around 200k, associate around 500-600k, VP around 900k - 1M, and MD is 1m+ easily.

Better than DB, worse than CS.
120k if you suck and should probably quit, 190k if you are bomb, somewhere in the middle for mid bucket
