Compliance internship to Risk
Hi all,
A few months ago I accepted an internship offer in Compliance at a BB bank. The more I think about it, however, I'd much prefer to intern in Risk Management (probably market/ credit risk) or Asset Management (I study engineering at a top 10 university and so also feel like my skills will be somewhat wasted here).
Is it worth applying elsewhere and just rejecting the original offer, or carrying out the internship and then trying to get onto the bank's risk/ asset management graduate schemes? Will interning in compliance actually offer me anything in terms of future career prospects in the aforementioned fields, or possibly also in strategy consulting which I'm also interested in, or am I better off looking elsewhere?
Aside If you're curious as to why an engineer applied for a compliance internship, I thought whether I end up in consulting or banking being familiar with compliance would serve me well; I also thought that I'd learn a lot about how a bank functions, and also make myself more employable further down the line given the current trend of events.
