Current Situation

So I was laid-off from a good middle market IB in early 2008. Since it was the worst job market in history, I had to join a start-up boutique IB that was started by some bankers from a well known wall street firm. I have been here for 1.5 years now and have had it. The place has very little deal flow and I just want out.

Any recommendations on what the move is? I feel headhunters will be worthless to me and I have contacted alumni from my undergrad and have scored a few interviews from them but in the end nothing came in. I am also want out of IB and want to move into a more "market oriented" job...

Any thoughts are great appreciated.

Network is your only way. Can you do an MBA? Here are your choices:

-MBA -Network

Keep networking, you have solid experience, should be able to break back into a mm or bb firm. I would do that for a couple of years and then go for the MBA. Maybe if you get destroy the GMAT you could go for it right away. Boutique deal flow might suck, but look at the positives. You went from a MM to a Boutique, have experience with middle to small deals, the nuances, etc. Should make you a desired hire for a larger bank, less training and such.
