Data science team in IB

Can anyone provide info on the role of the data science team for IB? For those in IB, how much do you interact with data scientists at your bank?

Some background: I had call with recruiter yesterday about data scientist opening at a BB. Right now I am working as data scientist (more like data engineer) for big consulting firm with tech group but I am very interested in finance. She could not tell me much about bonus but said title structure is similar to investment banking roles.

I put my questions in bold and posted description below:

Would this be back office? She was very vague when i asked and said there would be lot of interaction with investment banking team since my job would be to support them with their challenges (very vague)

Has anyone worked on data science team at a BB or have worked with the data scientists? Is this middle office or back office? I am not sure if she wasn't telling me because she doesn't know (recruiters...) or because she didn't want to say back office.

What would bonus be like? Salary would only be small bump from what I make now, so I would want to know more about bonus reality.

Would hours really only be 40 hours a week? I have heard horror stories about 100 hours in ibanking.

Right now my role is definitely back office and I really want a position where I have chance to interact with people who are not also engineers or when I am just explaining my results or some tool to them. Would it be possible to move to a quant position in the same bank after a few years? Or even to the IB team? Have you ever seen this happen? I never had great people skills to begin with but I will probably have none left if i only keep interacting with other data scientists and devs... I graduated from a top school with double major in CSE and math, for what it's worth. I also did research in a famous ML lab

There is a lot of talk about how BBs and other finance firms are investing in tech and prioritizing it but is that all just talk? Would teams in data science be front office or middle nowadays?
