Dealing with anger?

How do you guys deal with anger when you've worked really hard to get something but it doesn't work out? When you put in so much effort and you realise it was all for nothing and it has gone to waste?

For example, let's say you really wanted to get into IB but eventually realise it is not going to happen not matter what you do, or even if you already are in IB right now as an analyst and want to exit into PE but are unsuccessful and it's now too late since you're no longer an analyst and don't have the exit opportunities anymore.

How do you deal with that anger?

I started boxing a year ago to take that anger out on other people in sparring because I'm just so pissed off with my situation and wanted to release that anger somehow.

The benefits have been that I've gotten into phenomenal shape and my condition is a lot better than when I was just going to the gym. Also it helps me channel all the anger I have against the guy I'm sparring.

Downsides have been that I've been kicked out of two boxing gyms for going too hard in sparring which I expected but tbf I remember when I got rejected from an IB internship a year ago that I worked so hard to try and get and I prepared a lot but didn't manage to get through. I was just distraught and I'm embarrassed to admit I was crying for a while after the rejection because I was rejected from everywhere else too. In the next sparring session I just started swinging wildly with all the rage I had and tried to break my sparring partner's jaw. He is actually a friend of mine so we're still cool and all but yeah.

What do you guys do to deal with your anger or stress? Any tips on how to manage the rage you get from failing or from setbacks?

gym works for me, the heavier the weight the better
relaxation like music
driving cars at night, when nobody is around. or track days during the summer

Talking to my friends is also helpful, especially if my anger turns to violence against people.

Reduce anything that may increase anger/stress/violent behavior like any drugs, liquor or smoking. avoid demographics that may push your buttons. tell your gf to stay away on days where you feel more anger.

I'll say one thing to your credit – you've become better at not letting me suspect you're the author of a post based on the title alone
